Ed Skoog

babies are gigantic
they raze whole societies

crumble ways into dust
burn down whatever’s been

long fortified and heavily defended
in the tv room with the tv on

emerge from inside our bodies and roar
prey to their side

make the world fold over
and then

final act of monstrosity
destroy themselves so brief

ED SKOOG‘s second book of poems, Rough Day, will be published by Copper Canyon Press in 2013. His first book, Mister Skylight, was published in 2009. He lives in Montana.
